Winnipeg Free Press News

Winnipeg Free Press Store
Left to right, James Favel, Blackwolf Hart, Jackie Traverse and Cheryl James pose in front of a mural Jackie helped create. See Alex Paul's story. May 29, 2015 - (Phil Hossack / WInnipeg Free Press) Jackie Traverse, aunt of Shanastene McLeod, the woman the drummers and marchers were searching to find. James Favel, council member of the Bear Clan patrol. Cheryl James, drummer with the north end women’s drum group. Please ask her how to spell the name of her group. It’s in Ojibway and I don’t have it handy. (Keewatin Otchitchak Drumgroup) Blackwolf Hart, another drummer who is a member of the tiny local chapter of the American Indian Movement in Winnipeg, along with Jackie. (there are like three initiated members so it’s very small.) (Keewatin Otchitchak Drumgroup)
