Photo description:
Winnipeg Police Service Patrol Sgt. Lou Malo, Central Traffic Enforcement Co-ordinator in a police car with automated licence plate reading equipment . Above his head on the roof is one of three cameras that simultaneously scan licence plates of vehicles. Winnipeg Police Service uses licence-plate scanning technology to find stolen cars and drivers with suspended licences or other infractions. Its the same technology that makes MPIs licence-renewal decals obsolete. The officer is alerted on the computer screen when a flagged vehicle is found.
