Photo description:
Winnipeg Police Service Patrol Sgt. Lou Malo, Central Traffic Enforcement Co-ordinator in a police car with automated licence plate reading equipment. Above his head on the roof is one of three cameras that simultaneously scan licence plates of vehicles. Winnipeg Police Service uses licence-plate scanning technology to find stolen cars and drivers with suspended licences or other infractions. Its the same technology that makes MPIs licence-renewal decals obsolete. The officer is alerted on the computer screen when a flagged vehicle is found.
