An event at The Forks was held to launch National Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Week to raise attention to the critical need for life-saving organs across the country and to encourage Canadians to talk to their families and declare their intent to be organ and tissue donors. Two of the speakers at the announcement Monday were Kathy Urban, a 15 year kidney recipient and Reg Helwer, MLA Brandon West whose daughter Jessica has received two kidney transplants over the last 6 years from family members. The canopy at The Forks will be joining other landmarks across the country and be lit green for the week. Green is the the designated colour of organ and tissue donation and symbol of hope.
