RUTH BONNEVILLE / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS 49.8 feature piece on exploring the Manitoba Museum's role in collecting and caring for a vast number of artifacts from around Manitoba, and how much of that comes from things in our backyards. Photo of Minister Ian Wishart in a field of beans near Portage la Prairie MB, that once stood a home that had a sign hand written in big letters on it saying - No Votes for Women, during the women's suffrage in the early 1900's. The parcel of land it stood on was very visible to people because it's situated right next to the old number one Hwy. The home was later moved to Wishart's family property and used as a out building and barn for years before it was torn down. Some time ago, Minister Ian Wishart was renovating the old family barn on his property, when he discovered the sign and kept it just in case it had value. In 2016 he contacted the Manitoba Museum and it was given to them. They call it one of the most incrediblel artifacts in relation to women's suffrage (a former chunk of sidin, 8x10 feet, on which a previous owner had painted NO VOTES FOR WOMEN, broadcasting his opposition to anyone driving by).
