Sunday Special; Feature on Portage Place turning 30.
Eight-year-old Malkin Clippin plays on the piano in Kennedy Court or Centre Court of Portage Place while his mother keeps an eye on him Wednesday.
When the mall opened in 1987, it was to great fanfare and hopes it would "be the first step toward (downtown) revitalization and that, with a strong commercial core and residential development, other facilities would soon follow," Now, 30 years later operating with many shuttered storefronts and having dealt with big-name closures (McNally, Holt Renfrew, IMAX),complaints of drug deals happening on the premises and increased retail competition, can Portage Place bounce back? Does it have plans to?
