The couple from Venezuela owned a gelato business in El Tigre, Venezuela before immigrating to Manitoba five years ago. They both work at Friesen's in Altona and making 600-litre batches of the sweet frozen treat in test kitchens at the University of Manitoba that they sell for $2.50 a at the Co-op in Altona. With the help of the town, they're planning to scale up their operation in Altona in January and market their Tropi brand of gelato across Canada and the U.S. November 1, 2017
