A scuffle broke out between a group of Sikh demonstrators at the rear of the Winnipeg Free Press 300 Carlton St and RCMP escorting the Indian High Commissioner to Canada .The Acting High Commissioner Kalarickal Pranchu was on an offical visit to Manitoba , meeting premier Howard Pawley and then meeting the Wpg Free Press editorial board , the group first attached his car at the Manitoba Legislature then confronting him as he left the WFP meeting . One of two WFP photographers was injured when he was struck by police during the scuffle.The group was part of a world wide protest of the Indian governments attack on the Golden Temple in Amritsar India to remove extremists , 492 civilians were killed in the raid that extended to several locations and countryside , 83 Indian army personal were said to have been killed .
