Photo description:
The Winnipeg Humane Society changed its policy on March 1 and will now enthanize animals without first notifying the people who surrendered the animals. The society said the change was necessary because of an overwhelmingly number of cats that cannot be adopted out. Under its new policy, the Winnipeg Humane Society will no longer contact individuals before animals they surrendered are euthanized. Animals could be selected for euthanasia due to medical complications, aggressive behaviour or, in the case of cats, lack of space in the shelter. KEN GIGLIOTTI / Mar. 4 2013 / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS
