Winnipeg Free Press Store
The city's only organic composting business could be forced to shut down. Provincial officials have ordered Lenn Samborski Garden Supplies to get off their McGillivray Blvd. property Sept. 1. Lenn Samborski said their attempts to relocate have failed, and he's frustrated he's getting little co-operations from governments since composting organic waste is a "no brainer." City offered to lease the company land at Brady Road Landfill earlier this year, but Samborski said his lawyers told him it was a bad deal. A waste audit recently revealed that more than one-quarter of all trash generated by Winnipeggers is food waste, which contributes to harmful gases and contaminants in landfills. Samborski's business composts approx 100 tonnes of organic waste a year. See Jen Skerritt story 110823 - Tuesday, August 23, 2011 - (MIKE DEAL / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS)
