Line up to enjoy a bar-b-cue lunch provided by the Manitoba Pork Council at the block party hosted by the Siloam Mission to mark the 25th anniversary of the downtown homeless shelter. “It’s a bittersweet milestone,” says Floyd Perras, executive director of Siloam Mission in a news release. “On one hand, we would love to see this place shut down because there is no need for our services. On the other hand, in the last 25 years we have seen a lot of people take courageous steps to move forward in their lives and overcome adversity. They really are heroes of character, and we will celebrate their resiliency.” After the lunch the party moves outdoors to the parking lot to watch entertainment on a stage. see release (WAYNE GLOWACKI/WINNIPEG FREE PRESS) Winnipeg Free Press August 24 2012
