Winnipeg Free Press News

Winnipeg Free Press Store
Dr Philip Currie poses at the U of M Friday. Currie is a member of the Royal Society of Canada, and he helped found the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology in Drumheller, Alberta. In 2003 he was named one of the world's top explorers by Time Magazine. Currie will be speaking about the commercial trade in dinosaur fossils. Currently, private explorers travel the world collecting fossil specimens which they then sell -- often to private collectors, and sometimes for millions of dollars. (Sue, the T. Rex, sold for $8.4 million.) Professor Currie will ask: Should governments around the world permit this commercial trade? He will make the case that they should not. See Randy Turner story.
