49.8 SATURDAY - feature and daily series on safe roads ( Mary Agnes Welch story) (Tyler video )Who: Rebecca Ward, a cyclist with a car vs her bicycle crash story , occured at Academy and Cambridge,is where Rebecca had her crash. (May 31st, 2012)She was cycling eastbound down Academy Road in the curbside lane.  (In her words )At the intersection of Academy and Cambridge, a car that was heading south down Cambridge crossed Academy and struck me. I was hit on my left side, slammed up onto their windshield and landed on the ground; my bike was flung partway across the intersection and was totalled. Nearby individuals called 911 and ensured that I was well taken care of until the paramedics arrived. Along with fading in and out of consciousness, I ended up with a broken femur and fractured spine in the accident, yet realize my injuries could have been so much worse if I had not been wearing my helmet which is now broken in pieces - it definitely did its job.May 1 2014 / KEN GIGLIOTTI / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS
