Photo description:
A barge leaves the dock at Shoal Lake 39 First Nation and heads across Shoal Lake to Shoal Lake 40 First Nation, a community that was separated from the mainland after land was flooded to create a aqua duct for City of Winnipeg's water supply 100 years ago. A special ceremony was held on Wednesday to bring awareness to this event that has alienated this community for a century. The only connection to the mainland is by boat or barge that runs in the summer and a temporary bridge via a winter road in the winter. See Mary Agnes story.
