IN WINNIPEG WEDNESDAY WINNIPEG,Manitoba: The public is invited to participate in a celebration of civic pride and historical significance at The Manitoba Museum this Wednesday, August 6, as an exhibition is opened of the original Victoria Cross medals awarded almost 100 years ago to three Winnipeg soldiers who served in the First World War and distinguished themselves by their extreme bravery in fighting the enemy.The opening ceremonies for the Valour Road Victoria Cross Medal groupings will get underway at 1:30 P.M. in the Alloway Hall of The Manitoba Museum. In honour of the accomplishments of these Pine Street soldiers, a phenomena that was unique to Canada, Pine Street was renamed Valour Road in the 1920s. Aug 1 2014 / KEN GIGLIOTTI / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS
