The Assiniboine Park Conservancy announced the establishment of the McFeetors Heavy Horse Centre which will be built close to the north side of the East parking lot at the Zoo. Two major donations totaling $2.25 million helped make the centre possible. Ray McFeetors, former CEO and Chairman of Great-West Lifeco, donated $2 million, while Great-West Life has pledged an additional $250,000. The two Percheron horses brought to the announcement by Rutherford Farms are an example of the type that will be at the centre year-round. Janice Rutherford (right) stands with Ice a 6-year-old Percheron while Curt Klimpke stands with Flame an 8-year-old. 140910 September 10, 2014 Mike Deal / Winnipeg Free Press
