February 24, 2015 - (Phil Hossack / Winnipeg Free Press)   LIEUTENANT-GOVERNOR OF MANITOBA TO PRESENT GOVERNOR GENERAL’S CARING CANADIAN AWARD TO WORTHY MANITOBANS On behalf of His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnson, Governor General of Canada, His Honour the Honourable Philip S. Lee, lieutenant-governor of Manitoba, will present the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award to two worthy Manitobans, at a presentation  ceremony that will take place at Government House on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 4 p.m. “In recognizing these individuals, this award has been presented to people who have planned and served at community events, provided leadership to non-profit organizations, fed the hungry, comforted the suffering, provided joy to the heart-sick, and offered  hope to the forlorn,” the lieutenant-governor said. About the Caring Canadian Award Created in 1995, the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award recognizes living Canadians and permanent residents who have made a significant, sustained and unpaid contribution to their community, in Canada or abroad. Often working behind the scenes, these  individuals volunteer their time and efforts to help their fellow citizens. The Caring Canadian Award consists of a certificate and a lapel pin. The award symbol represents Canadians who selflessly give of their time and energy to others. The maple leaf symbolizes the people of Canada and their spirit. The heart depicts the open-heartedness  of volunteers and caregivers. The helping hand and heart support the maple leaf. The hand is outstretched to portray boundless generosity.
