RUTH BONNEVILLE / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS

Ten-year-old Kiearra Wood holds her stuffed dog that she brought with her from her home in the remote, northern community of Wasagamack after wild fires in the area threatened their community ten days ago. Kiearra took footage of the scene which she describes as a smokey, orange hue which was cast on them from flames and black smoke nearby.while waiting for boats to take them to St. Theresa Point and then airlifted to Winnipeg and surrounding communities. The two are staying in a hotel that a family member provided but other evacuees from the community and surrounding areas (6,000 in total) were put up in makeshift community halls for a number of days before the Red Cross and community leaders could place them in hotels until they can return to their community.
Note: I saw the video footage she took which does have a orange hue and asked her mom to send it to us.
See Alex Paul story.
