RUTH BONNEVILLE / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS Local Homicide – Investigation/Arrest: Photo of a neighbour consoling the live-in partner of Calvin Chan' in their garage with his boat in it on taken on Monday afternoon. Outside of the garage was the scene of the altercation that occurred between Chan and his neighbour which followed in Chan's death. Dennis Lloyd Jr. Penner, a 24-year-old male who is a close neighbour of Chan's is charged with manslaughter and is detained in police custody. Police info below: On May 11, 2019, at approximately 12:00 p.m., emergency personnel responded to a rear lane near Burrows Avenue and Albina Way for a report of an assault. They located a suspect and an injured unresponsive male. The injured male identified as Calvin Chan, a 66-year-old male of Winnipeg. ended up succumbing to his injuries. Members of the Homicide Unit continued with the investigation. It is believed that the deceased victim, along with a neighbour, had been attempting to back a boat into a garage when the suspect attempted to drive the rear lane and an argument ensued. The victim was subsequently assaulted and sustained a serious injury. Dennis Lloyd Jr. Penner, a 24-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with Manslaughter and is detained in custody.
