MIKE DEAL / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS
The Conservative Party of Canada is trying out "virtual door-knocking" for the first time during this year's federal election campaign. They previously tried the technique in provinces where the carbon tax was taking effect in April, so Manitobans may be familiar. "Sarah from CPC" has been the most frequent texter of late and, according to the CPC, short, female names are usually used when reaching out. Sarah asks whether the CPC can count on the person's support in the federal election in a text, and folks can reply "yes" or "no" to get more info. The numbers being texted are about half from Tory archives and half computer-generated, CPC says.
