Local - Hijab Day Standup

Amanita Kouyate (left), Halima Jelloul (middle) and Kahalesa Omari look through scarfs at the West End Women's Centre for their celebration of World Hijab Day on Monday.

Every February 1st is World Hijab Day, an occasion to break down barriers, build understanding, and create a more peaceful world without bigotry, discrimination, and prejudice against Muslim women. People of all faiths and backgrounds are encouraged to wear the Hijab for a day in solidarity with Muslim women worldwide. To mark the occasion this year, West Central Women’s Resource Centre gave the opportunity to women wearing the Hijab to share what it means to them.
