LOCAL - exhibit from digs at The Forks

New exhibit with actual sherds and pottery from the 1285 peace treaty that took place at the forks, on display at the Manitoba museum Monday.

Photo of Manitoba Museum curator of archaeology, Kevin Brownlee, with pottery found in southern Manitoba that was created by Indigenous peoples. Brownlee helped create the new Indigenous display with actual sherds of broken pieces of pottery from the 1285 Peace Treaty which were placed next to replicas to help the viewer understand what the entire pottery piece would've looked like when it was made.

More info:
Nine Indigenous nations met in the Forks area in 1285 and formulated an agreement called the 1285 Peace Treaty which included thousands of Indigenous people camping and trading goods with each other along the shores of the Red River just north of the Forks grounds.
