LOCAL - orange shirt day

Photo of Mathis Moore, a student at Robert H Smith school, with his classmates learning about residential schools for Orange Shirt Day.

ORANGE SHIRT DAY: Typically, on Sept. 30 - Orange Shirt Day - the older students at Robert H Smith take a neighbourhood walk to the old Assiniboia Indian Residential High School site on Academy, a 20-minute walk from their public school. Due to social distancing worries the students won't walk to the site this year, but instead will discuss the little-known history of the River Heights residential school throughout the day at their school, starting with a virtual assembly.
