RUTH BONNEVILLE / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS

LOCAL - Stak Co.

Photo of Suzan Stupack, owner of the Stak Co., with her best selling Northern Classic Chili beans.

What: This is for an Intersection piece on Suzan & her bean biz, the Stak Co. Following a long career in real estate management, Suzan struck out on her own five years this September, developing a line of chili-, soup- and burrito mixes employing grown in Manitoba beans and peas. She hit on the idea after thinking about growing up in St. Pierre de Jolys, where there was always a pot of baked beans on the stove. She incorporated recipes developed by her Metis ancestors and in November, after 4 1/2 years, her products finally made it onto store shelves (she'd been a regular face at farmers markets etc before then)
