RUTH BONNEVILLE / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS Standup - Fire Equipment donation Movers with Two Small Men with Big Hearts Moving, tie down the load of decommissioned gear into their truck after it was loaded by volunteers with WFPS Friday. WFPS loads a trailer-load of donations to Firefighters Without Borders Canada and the local moving company Two Small Men with Big Hearts Moving has donated the transport of the gear from Winnipeg to Vancouver, where it will then be shipped overseas. Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Training Academy, The WFPS follows the National Fire Protection Association’s standards which stipulate firefighting personal protective gear (helmets, turn-out gear, etc.) be decommissioned after 10 years of use. Often, decommissioned gear is still in good usable condition. In an effort to assist others, and keep these goods out of landfills, the WFPS donates newly decommissioned gear that is still in good usable condition to Firefighters Without Borders (FWB Canada). The non-profit organization, based in Vancouver, sends these goods to developing countries around the world where firefighters do not have access to, or the means to obtain safe gear. April 9th, 2021
