MIKE DEAL / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS
One of the many hand cutouts that have been given to Laura Funk to make into a shawl. This one comes from Adeline, 3, who is the daughter of someone Laura went to seminary with.
Laura Funk will become the first person ordained as a spiritual director by Mennonite Church Manitoba.
Because of restrictions around the pandemic, Funk asked friends and family to submit handprints on fabric that she will make into a shawl as a symbolic way of laying on of hands, which would normally happen at an ordination, where people would stand around the ordained person and reach out a hand to touch her as a symbol of community.
