Photo description:
MIKE DEAL / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS Christophe Turcotte-van de Rydt a Biological Science Masters student at the University of Manitoba collecting data from the Purple Martins bird houses located at FortWhyte Alive Monday morning. The small black birds migrate between our northern climate in the summer and the winter in South America. The various data that Christophe is collecting includes the number if eggs in each nest, the condition of the nest, number of leaves and their freshness as well as logging when hatchlings have arrived. Today was the first day that this particular series of nests had hatched eggs. Five very newly hatched purple martins along with a single unhatched egg were found in one of the nests. 210628 - Monday, June 28, 2021.
