MIKE DEAL / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS
Calvin Lugalambi, an international student in Winnipeg is facing a hospital bill of $120K after being admitted to the hospital with severe stomach pains in early May. When he was in hospital, he contracted COVID and that prolonged his stay and surgery. It's timely not only because of the COVID angle, but also because of all the controversy over the province's decision to repeal international student universal health coverage a few years ago. Calvin Lugalambi is now in recovery, but he's terrified his bill is so high. He just graduated and is supposed to transfer from ICM to U of M in the fall, and there was no transition insurance automatically applied.
