ENT - Louis Riel Stature Public art

A 12 foot high sculpture of Louis Riel created by artist Marcien Lemay. The shells were made by architect Etienne Gaboury a distant relative of Louis Riel’s.

Around the statue are two 30 foot high half cylinder shells that bracket the sculpture and have Riel’s name and a quote from him etched into them.

This statue of Manitoba’s Metis founding father Louis Riel caused quite a stir when it was unveiled on the grounds of the Manitoba Legislature. Eventully that controversy led to it being relocated to St. Boniface College where Louis Riel was once a student.
