RUTH BONNEVILLE / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS ENT - Louis Riel Stature Public art A 12 foot high sculpture of Louis Riel created by artist Marcien Lemay. The shells were made by architect Etienne Gaboury a distant relative of Louis Riels. Around the statue are two 30 foot high half cylinder shells that bracket the sculpture and have Riels name and a quote from him etched into them. This statue of Manitobas Metis founding father Louis Riel caused quite a stir when it was unveiled on the grounds of the Manitoba Legislature. Eventully that controversy led to it being relocated to St. Boniface College where Louis Riel was once a student. Photo for the Indigenous public art team project, Aug 3, 2021
