Local - Dog traps

Photo of Catherine Gagnon with one of her dogs, Sophie (11yrs), outside her home in St. James. Sophie was with her when her other, Ruby (8yrs) was caught in a conibear trap and died.

Subject: Catherine Gagnon is applauding the city call to ban conibear traps, after one killed her dog in January 2021. The change is part of the city’s proposed update to the responsible pet ownership bylaw, which protection and community services committee is set to vote on sometime today.

RESPONSIBLE PET OWNERSHIP: Residents and advocates are speaking on support of the new pet ownership rules as protection committee will prepares to vote on them. At least one, whose dog died after an attack at a dog daycare welcomes some changes but hopes for even stricter standards. Another woman whose dog died after being caught in a conibear trap spoke in support of plans to ban those. Vote expected sometime this afternoon on this.
