LOCAL - UKRAINIAN STUDENT

Portrait of Anna Shypilova, Ukrainian student studying at the U of M and has immediate family in Kiev she is anxious about.

Story: The University of Manitoba put out calls out to alum to raise funds for its emergency bursaries and food bank, in response to concerns from Eastern European students who cannot access their bank accounts right now. Approximately 40 students self-identify as Ukrainian. Some of them, including Science student Anna Shypilova can no longer use their debit cards. Anna has accessed the student food bank, but she doesn’t know how she’ll pay for the spring term. Aside from the usual student anxieties of studying and exams, she is also anxious about all of her loved ones who remain in Kiev. MAGGIE
