RUTH BONNEVILLE / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS ENT - Artist Toluwalope Toludare Portrait of artist and sculptor, Toluwalope Toludare, with his creation called, Dudu Osun, meaning "Black and Shine" taken at C2 Centre for Craft. Story: Toluwalope Toludare is a fairly new MCC member. Toluwalope began working in ceramics when he attended a design college in Nigeria, but he originally came from a science background (he was enrolled in a science high school). After design school, he completed a cross-disciplinary Phd with a concentration in Bio-Ceramics, marrying his interests in science and pottery through research of medical applications of ceramics. Ceramics are bio inert (your body doesnմ reject them) and bio active (your body can integrate with the material and build on top of it). This interest led him to researching and developing dental porcelain powder. He has been published in several scientific journals for his research in Bio-Ceramics while working in Nigeria. For Toluwalope, being a potter isnմ just about making pots: itճ about being self-sufficient as a potter. With his chemistry and science background in combination with his years of experience, Toluwalope can make his own clay, his own glazes, his own kiln.
