RUTH BONNEVILLE / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS Philanthropy - Soup Fairies Portrait of Paulette Cote and her husband Peter Czehryn, with packaged frozen soup and hamper items taken in their home in Windsor Park Friday. Story: Philanthropy Page. Giving back to the community has been deeply ingrained in the lives of Paulette Cote and her husband Peter Czehryn, a retired couple married 30 years. Creators of the Winnipeg Soup Fairies, a group of volunteers serving homemade soup and bread to those ill during the pandemic, the couple and an expanding number of helpers quickly began to fill a larger community need. They’ve partnered with a licensed kitchen allowing them to connect with various community groups (including the Never Alone Foundation) and bring nourishing meals and comfort to a large number of people in need, serving over 1,700 people last year. They were surprised and humbled to hear they’d been selected to receive the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal (Manitoba) for their service to the community and will be accepting their medals on November 28th at the Legislature.
