MIKE DEAL / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS Starbuck School students playing with lego during the noon-hour Lego Club, (clockwise from bottom left) Jaidyn Smart, Wayne Marks, Bentley Manaigre, Taylor Harding, Lily Turner, Cale Schrof, and Ryker Milne. Tim Morison, phys-ed teacher at Starbuck School in Starbuck, MB, found in Lego an unlikely cure to workplace burnout and mental health challenges, which began after months of teaching during a pandemic and worsened when he and his wife lost their baby in the spring. Morison opened up to his students about his mental health struggles and shared his coping mechanism: building Lego with his three-year-old at home and alone, with them. His studentsՠreceptiveness has since sparked the launch of a Lego club at Starbuck School. On Mondays and Tuesdays, the phys-ed teacher forfeits his lunch hour to spend time with K-8 students and colourful blocks. Theyնe done significant fundraising to purchase toys and accepted donations from community members. See Maggie Macintosh story 230130 - Monday, January 30, 2023.
