RUTH BONNEVILLE / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS ENT - ELDER PROFILE Profile portrait of Elder, Robert Green, in the reflection room at CMHR. This is for a profile piece on the knowledge keeper series and talks about Greeneճ journey to becoming a knowledge keeper and elder. ҍy name, my clan, and who I belong to, thatճ all part of my Identity. Thatճ all part of who I am as an Anishinaabe man, descended from my grandfathers and great grandfathers and my grandmothers and great grandmothers.Ӎ He was born on Iskatewizaagegan #39 Independent First Nation also known as Shoal Lake #39, an Anishinaabe community located 16 kilometers south of Ontario Highway 673 from TransCanada Highway 17, that sits next to Shoal Lake #40. They are the people of the Shallow Water. The small, isolated community had no hydro, no road, and the only connection Greene had to the outside world was his grandfatherճ radio that was powered by big box-sized batteries. Today the community has a registered population of 585 band members, with the on-reserve population of roughly 297 people. April 13th, 2023
