LOCAL STDUP - park blessing

Point Douglas City Councillor Vivian Santos together with Leslie Spillett, and local community leaders host a land blessing ceremony for the redevelopment of Giizhigooweyaabikwe Park located in the Centennial neighbourhood, located at 242 Lizzie Street, 

Leslie Spillett, a well-known advocate for the community is honoured by having the park named after her.    “Giizhigooweyaabikwe” or “Painted Sky Woman” is Leslie Spillett’s spirit name in the Anishinaabemowin language.  

Singers with Red Medicine Drum share their music with those gathered at the park blessing.  

Note:  The actual land acknowledgment ceremony was not recorded by the media at their request.
