Photo description:
A heavy storm that rolled through western Manitoba was too much for one of Manitoba's oldest trees, which reportedly fell over sometime on Tuesday night. The Souris old oa, located in Souris' Victoria Park, was one of three trees to be designated Manitoba heritage trees in 2015, as part of an inaugural provincial Heritage Trees Program. Provincial records suggest the old oak, which is believed to be one of the oldest trees in Manitoba, was more than 550 years old. However, the RM of Souris-Glenwood website quotes a local legend that suggests the tree is more than 600 years old, and may have taken root in 1497. (Matt Goerzen/The Brandon Sun)
