Winnipeg Free Press News

Winnipeg Free Press Store
The first section of the new Daly Overpass is set to open today. The City of Brandon sent out a release Tuesday afternoon stating that as of Sept. 13, the new northbound structures for the overpass would be opening, with one lane of traffic heading in each direction while construction is completed for the southbound bridges. After this happens, Fred Brown Way will be closed from 18th Street North to 19th Street North. The eastern leg of Pacific Avenue, including the under-bridge loop, will be open once again for traffic while the western leg remains closed to facilitate work. The new multi-use pathway and bridge infrastructure will open for active transportation use from pedestrians, cyclists and similar groups. Last month, Infrastructure Minister Doyle Piwniuk told the Sun that the existing Daly Overpass would be closed and traffic moved over to the northbound bridge once the latter was complete. At the time, Piwniuk said the project was on time and on budget. (Tim Smith/The Brandon Sun)
