The painting, which depicts the backyard of C.E. L'Ami's former home at 81 Deer Lodge Place was presented to the St. James-Assiniboine Public Library by FitzGerald's son, Edward, and the former city council of the City of St. James in 1958. Charles L'Ami worked for the Saskatoon Star and the Winnipeg Tribune before moving on to a reporter position with the Wiinnipeg Free Press. His wife Christena L'Ami, who also worked as a reporter for the Free Press, was an original member of the St. James Public Library board serving from 1955 to 1970.
