Photo description:
04012024 With help from Brandon University Anishinaabe Knowledge Keeper Barb Blind, university student Cari Trout of Cross Lake First Nation sews a ribbon skirt at the BU Indigenous Peoples’ Centre on Ribbon Skirt Day, Thursday. According to Blind, who has sewn traditional skirts since the mid 1990’s, the skirts represent the power of Indigenous women and their connection to the earth. Ribbon Skirt Day is honoured on January 4th and the BU Indigenous Peoples’ Centre will be hosting ribbon skirt making workshops each Thursday throughout the month from 10:00 AM until early afternoon.
