Foster parent Jamie Pfau, president of the Manitoba Foster Parent Association, is urging the province to increase basic maintenance rates and service fees, which have been frozen for more than a decade. She is submitting a letter to Families Minister Nahanni Fontaine tomorrow, following a press conference with Liberal leader Cindy Lamoureux. Manitoba risks losing more foster parents if allowances aren't increased, said Pfau. Her letter says allowances haven't kept up with the soaring cost of living, which means some foster parents have seen their income decline. She says the system - and children - will suffer if the freeze isn't lifted.
