MIKE DEAL / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS Comrad Comics started in 2019 when friends and former Steinbach classmates Matthew Dyck (right) and Hely Schumann decided to join forces and create the first issue, featuring locally made comics by themselves and one other artist. Five years and six issues later, Comrad has published 30 artists, with their unique, creator-oriented business model more focused on their contributors getting paid than themselves. Dyck and Schumann both hold full-time creative jobs in marketing and graphic design, so for them, Comrad is a volunteer effort. See Ben Waldman story 240313 - Wednesday, March 13, 2024.
