Glen Lawson speaks, left, while Bill Fairbairn smiles as his daughter Ashley delivers his speech as they become the inaugural inductees into the Brandon Wheat Kings Hall of Fame during the team's Black and Gold Gala on Thursday evening at the Victoria Inn. Fairbairn, 77, was one of the top forwards in team history, scoring 125 goals in three full seasons with the team as it played in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League and the Manitoba Junior Hockey League in the mid-1960s. He went on to skate in 712 regular season and playoff games in the National Hockey League before returning to the area. Meanwhile, Lawson played with the Wheat Kings in 1953-54, and took over behind the bench in 1958-59, 1964-65 and 1970-71. He also served as general manager, director, part owner and league governor after the club joined the Western Hockey League for the 1967-68 season. (Perry Bergson/The Brandon Sun)
