Liane Morran:Here are some photos of my trip to Haiti. I was dumping the buckets of vomit and diarrhea. Cholera causes severe watery diarrhea and vomiting, so the liquid excreted is almost always just clear fluid by the gallon! The idea of the hydration clinic is to replace the fluids in the body quicker than they are being lost. The cholera beds are made of wood, with a piece of blanket between the head of the bed and the hole. Beneath the hole is the bucket for catching the diarrhea and urine and beside the bed is a bucket to catch the projectile vomit. There are no pillows, but rough, itchy blankets are available for the cholera patients to use. - for winnipeg free press
