May 22, 2015 - (Phil Hossack / Winnipeg Free Press) For immediate release: Winnipeg, May 22, 2015 – The Assiniboine Park Zoo is happy to announce the arrival of a new, incredibly cute addition to the zoo family – a male baby musk ox! Born on May 15th, the musk ox is doing well and is currently on exhibit in Journey to Churchill for Zoo visitors to see. In addition, two snow leopard cubs were also born on May 15 and remain off exhibit with their mother for the time being. “It’s certainly been an exciting week here at the Zoo,” said Dr. Chris Enright, Head, Veterinary Services at Assiniboine Park Zoo. “All of the newborns are healthy and happy. It looks like it’s going to be a beautiful weekend and the perfect time for people to visit the Zoo and meet the new musk ox.” Also new at the Zoo are daily Animal Encounters with Zookeepers, an Explorer Hunt where families can navigate the Zoo to learn about the animals and then visit the Wild Things gift shop to receive their official explorer button. The Zoo’s seasonal exhibit Australian Walkabout is also open as well as the Zoo Loo Kangaroo ride, a fun theme-park style ride for kids and adults alike.
