Kezia Swain, 11, with one of the drum carding machines. The alpaca wool gets put through the machine two or three times before being spun into yarn. Elaine Owen, a teacher at Miami School in Miami, Manitoba has undertaken a huge project to teach her students some core values. Over the last six months, she has gathered raw wool and shown her students the process through washing, carding, dyeing and spinning the wool and then using looms, making mittens, scarves, etc. Elaine has four spinning wheels in her classroom and the students are donating their crafted items to a local shelter. 150113 - Wednesday, January 14, 2015 - (MIKE DEAL / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS)
