David Rawiri, a senior Facilitator/Educator with Waitomo Papakainga in New Zealand exchangs a hongi with Diane Redsky Exec. Director of the Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre after the spiritual cloaking ceremony at the close of the Maori Family Group Decision Making Learning Conference. Over 300 people attended the one day conference Tuesday. The Maori model is an indigenous based and indigenous led process that shifts the decision making regarding the care and protection of children to the entire family and community and reduces children in the child and family service system.
