A funeral service was held Wednesday at Eddystone, Manitoba, for a local farmer who died last Friday from injuries suffered in a farm accident.Major Jay Fox, 32, was pinned last Thursday evening by a tractor’s front-end loader bucket on his farm 75 km east of Dauphin. He was later transported to the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg where he passed away on Friday.Fox moved to the Eddystone area in 1999 from Lloydminster. Less than 10 years later he was being awarded for his success in the farming industry. He and his wife, Angela, were recognized in 2008 as the province’s Outstanding Young Farmers. Fox also served as president of the Manitoba Beef Producers since 2009, an organization that represents the province’s 10,000 beef producers. He retired from the role earlier this month after finishing his term as director. He leaves behind Fox leaves behind four children−Devon, Charlee, Porter and Major−who range in age from two to 14.“The kids are doing okay. We go out and do some chores,” said Angela, who is planning to stay on the farm with her children. “We have lots of good neighbours who are over and helping with the farm work. Eventually we’ll do it on our own. That’s what he’d want us to do.” alana odegard story / winnipeg free press
