Photo description:
The first load of ice blocks cut from a pond in a Birds Hill gravel pit arrived at The Forks Wednesday on a flat bed that will be used by the team of Chinese ice artisans in Winnipeg to create The Great Ice Show. Each of the 250-kilogram blocks was carefully carried to the site by fork lift. These blocks will form the base of a snow and ice sculpture winter wonderland modelled after the largest ice festival in the world, the Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival in Harbin, China. They hope to open The Great Ice Show in the third week of January. see Danielle Doiron for more info. Wayne Glowacki / Winnipeg Free Press Dec. 30 2015
